Thirty-two years ago Kathryn Bigelow’s Point Break (1991) splashed onto the big screen, quite literally. It is a cult-classic action film jam packed with surfing, sky-diving and shoot-outs. Now The British Film Institute has brought it back to big screens across the country with a stunning 4K restoration that cannot be missed.

Keanu Reeves, pre-The Matrix (1999, The Wachowskis) and John Wick (2014, Chad Stahelski) fame is Johnny Utah, an undercover cop working to ascertain the crimes of bank-robbing surfers. He meets and quickly connects with surfer Bodhi, portrayed by Patrick Swayze. As a thrill-seeker always looking for the next high, Bodhi drags Johnny into his world of riding the waves and committing crimes, which is as thrilling as you’d expect it to be.

The texture of Bigelow’s world is brighter than ever in the new restoration. Waves, sunsets and rain are so vivid it’s as though you can smell the beach from your cinema seat.  You can catch Point Break at Cinema City on December 2nd alongside a Q&A with UEA and NUA film experts.
