The University of East Anglia’s student radio station, Livewire, has raised over £2,000 in a challenge to support community growth.

The competition, known as Jailbreak, has seen six teams travel as far away from the university campus as possible within 48-hours.

So far, two teams have flown internationally to Stockholm and Athens, with another two pairs preparing to follow suit.

Only Bantiques Roadshow and Absolutely Skintvare remain in Norwich.

Livewire Station Manager, Nathan Winterford, and UEATV President, Kizzie Jupp, have made it to Athens, Greece.

All groups have 24-hours left to participate, with fundraising continuing across the weekend.

The teams have currently collectively raised £2,405, with £500 donated by Livewire alumni Greg James.

Greg, who was Livewire’s Station Manager in 2006, recently completed his own challenge titled “The Longest Ride” to raise money for Comic Relief.

It saw the Radio 1 host cycle from Weymouth to Edinburgh in eight days on a tandem bike, raising over £4,000,000 to help support those facing difficult times in the UK and across the world.

Livewire Head of Socials, Events and Communities, Sophie Brown, said that the station was “so thrilled and thankful” for the donation.

“It’s for such a great cause!

“We also want to congratulate Greg for his amazing challenge in aid of Comic Relief.”
