I really enjoyed the mysterious journey that this book took me on, and I loved how each chapter was an exciting stepping stone for the main character Pip in solving this murder case. The characters take you with them throughout, making you feel as if you are really there with them. Straight away what captivated me was how it felt like we were on this journey with Pip, who wants to really find out what happened to Andy Bell because she doesn’t believe that the person who was said to have murdered her really did.
As a reader you feel involved in the storyline because you are alongside Pip throughout and able to create your own interpretations and insights for what you think is going on. I was captivated by this book straight away because of a number of aspects. First of all, I loved how it transforms you to where the characters are. I found it so easy to piece together my own image of the setting and the characters but also just the general journey and direction we were being taken in. I think the main character, Pip, is such a relatable character which in a way made the story more enjoyable. I would describe her as a tenacious, determined and free-spirited teenager who knew what she wanted to achieve and didn’t let any obstacles get in the way of that. I think personally I could relate to her, but I also think that many teens and even young adults could find some resemblance between them and Pip. I also just think that the elements of detective, mystery and wonder drew me in because naturally as a reader I form all of these questions at the start of the book and by the end I want the answers. I did like how, because this book doesn’t provide you with those answers very quickly, I was able to come up with my own guesses and theories.
I would highly recommend this book! In terms of the target audience, I feel like it reaches out to anyone. It is a hooking book that allowed me to escape to another reality for a little bit and get involved in solving a possible murder case! I love how a lot of the elements of this book such as the characters and even where this book is set scream out realistic. Like I mentioned before, the characters can connect with the reader, the story is set in a little town which I am sure a lot of readers of this book can relate to growing up in a small and more enclosed environment. Even the case that Pip is trying to solve relates to real life incidents in the past, present and probably future.
So, if you are wanting a sense of journey, mystery, the unknown and to delve deep into solving a murder case, then this is the book for you!
