Whether you’re dressing solo, duo, or as a group, 2024 is proving to be quite the year for Halloween costumes. An iconic year of pop culture, from Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour to the recent release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, inspiration is to be found at every corner and there are plenty of options for everyone. Of course, the ‘classics’ still have you covered too!
The music scene of 2024 is a fountain of creativity for paired Halloween costumes this year, Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega from Carpenter’s ‘Taste’ music video being one of them. Perfect for a blonde and brunette duo, this costume balances gore and chic for a Halloween night to remember. Though both parties would look gorgeous wearing similar black maxi dresses (as seen at the end of the music video), the slightly spookier option here would be to replicate Carpenter’s blue-gingham trousers and vest top set, after being mauled with Ortega’s chainsaw, who is clad in a witchy, black midi dress. There are some props required for this one, such as a generous amount of fake blood and chainsaw, but the result is sure to leave quite an impression. Another iconic pop culture costume duo expected to be popular this Halloween is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. It only makes sense many will want to dress as the sequin-spangled popstar after the paramount success of the Eras Tour this year. If sequins aren’t your thing, though, a flowing dress made for frolicking in a flower field should do the trick. ‘Travis Kelce’s’ costume is simpler, with either a plain red t-shirt or a Kansas City Chiefs jersey, if you can find the real thing.
Lastly, if you prefer to take things solo on Halloween, the world truly is your oyster! Beetlejuice — the wickedly eccentric figure from Tim Burton’s 1980s film and recent sequel — is sure to be popular this year. Decked out in a black and white striped suit and frazzled green wig, you are sure to be the life of the party! Inspiration isn’t limited to this year’s movie releases, though. Released in 2022, Maxine, from Ti West’s slasher film X, holds immense cultural relevance today and wears a stylishly simple outfit perfect for Halloween. All you need is a pair of short dungarees, knee-high boots, plenty of blue eyeshadow and an “I’m a star” mentality. To make this costume more gruesome, why not splash yourself with fake blood? The choices really are limitless when it comes to this outfit, plus it is instantly recognisable.
From timeless classics to this year’s pop-culture icons, 2024’s Halloween costumes offer something for everyone. Whether you are going for spooky, funny or stylish this Halloween, make sure to embrace your personal creativity, make your costume truly yours. Happy Halloween!
