There are two movies I have to try not to watch through the spooky season and wait until Halloween night. My first tradition is, of course, Halloween (1978, John Carpenter). I mean, the clue is quite literally in the name! It’s a horror classic that has stood the test of time in remaining one of the scariest movies ever made. Jamie Lee Curtis gives an outstanding performance as Laurie Strode, the babysitter, as she is stalked by the psychopathic murderer, Michael Myers (Nick Castle). With a killer signature theme song and nostalgic 70s vibes, this is the perfect movie for your Halloween.
The other movie I save to watch is Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993, Henry Selick). This visually stunning claymation musical tells the story of Jack Skellington (Chris Sarandon), the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, as he becomes disillusioned with the holiday. After stumbling upon Christmas Town, he decides to take over Christmas for the year. However, chaos ensues when it is ultimately given a spooky twist at the hands of the town’s monsters. This is the perfect film to watch before bed as you’re getting cosy and ready for the next holiday season, Christmas!
