The SU has concluded investigations into nine students following alleged breaches of the union’s code of conduct.

The individuals, who we have not named due to welfare concerns, were investigated after evidence was received by Concrete that showed behaviour that broke SU policy.

In a statement, the Chair of Board, Yinbo Yu said: “Whilst we cannot comment on any confidential student matters, as a Board our main priority and focus is to ensure the SU continues to operate for its members from a strategic perspective.”

Five of the students are reported to have been removed from any society positions with immediate effect, three of whom are also alleged to have received indefinite sus- pensions from the Students’ Union.

The remaining four were handed four-week suspensions from Student Union run activities and events.

The students, aged between 18 and 22, were individually investigated in February.

Jumara Stone, Chief Executive Officer of the Students’ Union, said: “I want to take this time to say that I am grateful to all the students who have shared with us their insights, thoughts and ideas on how we can continue to improve the organisation. We have a wonderful student community here at the University of East Anglia who contin- ue to make this SU a brilliant place to be a part of; who are kind, respectful of others, and ambitious. It’s everything UEA and the SU want to see thrive, and it is a great priv- ilege to be able to see our students be such inspirational role models for others.”

Any further updates will follow online as more details emerge.
