A brand-new degree in Artificial Intelligence will be open for the choosing in September 2025.
Joining the almost 200 postgraduate degrees at UEA, the School for Computing Sciences have decided to introduce this year long course.
The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change recently encouraged the UK to adapt its institutions for the age of AI.
UEA heard this call and have designed this new course to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and industry skills needed to excel in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
Prof Wenjia Wang, Professor of Artificial Intelligence in UEA’s School of Computing Sciences, said: “Artificial intelligence is revolutionising industries globally, and at UEA, we are dedicated to providing students with the tools to become the next generation of AI experts.
This programme combines rigorous academic learning with real-world applications, ensuring our students are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in an AI-driven world.”
The Government’s Artificial Intelligence sector study said: “AI has the potential to transform our economy and benefit our daily lives.
Harnessing its potential could help us tackle some of the biggest challenges we face, from climate change to healthcare.
That is why the UK is taking a leading role in advancing the development and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) globally.”
AI companies generated more than £14 billion in revenues in 2023, according to this study.
The UEA said: “Delivering this course in East Anglia could provide a strong geographical advantage.”
In the UK, the highest number of registered AI companies outside of London is in the East of England.
The School of Computing Sciences will have students on the new course explore a wide range of AI techniques and real-world applications, including machine learning, data mining, computer vision, and cybersecurity.
The curriculum covers everything from foundational programming languages like Python to advanced AI concepts, ensuring that graduates are industry ready.
The University hopes to train students in up-and-coming jobs like AI system developers, machine learning engineers, and AI researchers.
