Here is your 2026 film forecast, handpicked by yours truly, where hopefully you get the opportunity to watch one of these many films I am about to list below.
Starting off with:
• Wuthering Heights, in cinemas now, directed by Emerald Fennell:
Kicking off the 2026 film calendar, Emerald Fennell’s bold adaptation of Wuthering Heights has already arrived in cinemas. Spearheading this adaptation is none other than industry staple Margot Robbie and forever-growing-on-the-scene Mr Jacob Elordi, in Fennell’s passionate adaptation of a love story set in the Yorkshire Moors. If you missed its Valentine’s weekend release, be sure to look out for it on streaming platforms in the coming months.
• Project Hail Mary, releasing March 20th, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller:
Ryan Gosling finds himself in a dystopian sci-fi setting, where he – and he alone – is tasked with saving Earth deep in outer space; I personally am very excited for this.
• Disclosure Day, releasing June 12th, directed by Steven Spielberg:
Steven Spielberg’s newest addition to his filmography sees Colman Domingo, Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt confronting an unseen alien threat on a global scale, posing the chilling question: “If you found out we weren’t alone – if someone proved it to you – would that frighten you?” Yes, it most likely would.
• The Mandalorian and Grogu, releasing May 22nd, directed by Jon Favreau:
The hit TV series The Mandalorian has made the leap to the big screen, where the unlikely pair embark on a new Star Wars adventure across the galaxy, encountering new foes and evading classic Imperial danger.
• Supergirl, releasing June 26th 2026, directed by Craig Gillespie:
After her breakout role as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon, Milly Alcock takes flight as Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl, in James Gunn’s newly established DC universe. Will this be a summer hit, or will traces of the old DC era remain? Hopefully not!
• The Odyssey, releasing July 17th, directed by Christopher Nolan:
After Nolan’s astronomical seven-award sweep at the 2024 Oscars, he returns two years later to adapt Homer’s iconic work of literature. With a star-studded cast too long to list, will he dominate awards season once again with his cinematic presence, or will the competition finally rise to meet his towering ambitions?
• Spiderman: Brand New Day, releasing July 31st, directed by Destin Daniel
Cretton:
With Zendaya returning alongside Jon Bernthal’s reprisal of The Punisher, the fourth instalment in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series (yes, a fourth – a first for the franchise) promises a tonal shift, picking up after a world where Peter Parker has been completely erased from memory.
• The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, releasing November 20th,
directed by Francis Lawrence:
Riding the momentum of Suzanne Collins’ recent novel, the film is set in Panem 24 years before the events of the original trilogy, opening on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games, where a young Haymitch Abernathy finds himself forced into the arena. The prequel explores the origins of the character later portrayed by Woody Harrelson, expanding the lore that shaped one of the franchise’s most enduring figures.
• Avengers Doomsday, releasing December 18th, directed by Anthony and
Joe Russo:
With the plot still under wraps, there is a familiar level of secrecy surrounding the film, as is often the case with Marvel releases. Positioned as the studio’s own “Hail Mary” after a relatively stagnant few years, and with much of the old cast returning, will this instalment finally be the Hulk smash Marvel needs to win back the hearts of the masses?
• Dune Part 3: Messiah, releasing December 18th, directed by Denis
Villeneuve:
The third instalment in the series follows Paul Atreides – the one and only Lisan al-Gaib, portrayed by Timothée Chalamet – as he inherits unimaginable power and confronts the consequences of becoming a near-tyrannical, god-like figure within the Dune universe.
So that’s the rundown. Granted, there are more films set to be released this year, but these are the major blockbusters and potential standouts likely to capture the public’s attention. Either way, what a year for film – I’m personally excited for 2026, and I hope you readers out there are too!
