The Students’ Union has announced its new full-time officers at an election results night following weeks of voting across campus.
Out of thirty candidates originally nominated, five were successful in securing the salaried roles.
Current Academic Officer of UEA Education Society, Gray Prothero-Gibbs, was named as the news Undergraduate Education Officer.
They described the event as exciting but unexpected after running in one-to-one competition with Marlowe North.
“I’m an education student, so it’s like combining everything I’ve done, and it’s great to be able to move forward and use it in something useful.”
Psychology student Anisah Tufal explained how her win as Culture and Community Officer would help her give back to the Students’ Union after it had helped her for three years.
“It means a lot to me, because I really wanted to try and help turn the SU around.
“Getting to help and improve them, I’m just really excited to start.”
Megan Aldridge, who focused on inclusion within sports and societies in her bid to win, will take over from Olivia Hunt as the new Activities and Opportunities Officer.
She congratulated her new colleagues, and thanked everyone that had voted for her.
The same standings saw Jaz Brook, a previous part-time officer and CEO of social enterprise Youth Climate Solutions, elected as Campaigns and Democracy Officer.
Amin Jawrawala, an MA student at the University of East Anglia, was crowned Postgraduate Education Officer after campaigning alongside eight other candidates running for the role.
The new officers will take part in training across the summer in preparation for the 26/27 academic year starting in September.
