UEA’s Psychology Society have organised a night market to raise money for a Norwich-based charity, The Matthew Project.
The market, which will aim to support those suffering from substance addiction. will have around 13 vendors and live performances in The Hive.
Psychology Society president, Charlotte Preston, hopes the event will encourage students who may be experiencing addiction themselves to seek help.
“Addiction is just so stigmatised,” said Charlotte. “There is such an ongoing drug problem in Norfolk at the moment.”
“Sometimes, when it comes to addiction, people tend to shy away from it. This is embracing it, understanding what it is, getting educated on it, and how to help people and how to support people in getting the help they need.”
Stalls will have a variety of products from doughnuts to hot drinks and even home-made soap.
At the market, there will be a question-and-answer session in which people who have recovered from substance addiction will have a chance to share their stories.
The night market will take place on the 19th of March and will be in the Hive from 7-10pm.
