Hi! I’m Zayna Tarabay, an English/Lebanese artist who wishes she had gone to art school. My creative output has always utilized mixed media, whether combining sculpture with painting, or inks and charcoal on large-scale canvases. I also have quite a selection of digital paintings made during lockdown: for the first few months I spent 9 hours a day painting. Watching artsy movies is also a hobby of mine, and often inspires me to paint. I recommend ‘The Wickerman’ for its surreal atmosphere, or any other folk-horror movie.
Apart from sparse attendance at life drawings in the city, I don’t create much work now. However, I’ll always be a passionate artist!
The iconography I often gravitate to is that of contorted, enigmatic depictions of the body. I take great inspiration from Egon Schiele for this reason. Themes such as religion through a woman’s perspective, sexuality, and desire are often subjects within my work. These were the main subjects of my most recent gallery exhibition at the end of my Art and Design Foundation course.
