About a month ago, Fiona and Jamie sat me down for a meeting. I didn’t know what to expect- but as always- my mind turned to the worst possible scenario. I was surprised and even more flattered when I was asked to come in as a Co-Editor-in-Chief for this issue of Concrete. Having given two years of my life to this paper, it has been an honour to work with the entire team on a closer level. From reading through the incredible articles that have been produced, to seeing each Editor’s visions come life to their lay-up’s, it’s truly a wonderful sight to see how committed our team is to this paper.
March celebrates Women’s History Month, and I can safely say that this month has been one for the history books. We’ve took on our own bit of “Girl Power” and working alongside Fiona and Milli (Emily) has been such a great experience. I’m sure they would agree in the fact that we’re so proud of the work that has been achieved for this issue.
It’s been a busy month, but especially a busy week. When I made a list of all the things I needed to get done for this issue, I immediately felt a pit in my stomach. What’s got me through this week? The weather. I came to the realisation over the weekend that, like many, I’d been suffering from a spell of ‘seasonal depression’. But as the sun has started to make its spring appearance and the days are getting longer, I’ve found myself in a second wind. I find it crazy how much the weather can impact one’s emotions, but I’m thankful- more than ever- that the sun decided to shine on a stressful week. It has been the calm in a Concrete storm and a huge motivator.
As I’m writing this, our editing week nearly done. Once again, the sun is shining and my time as Co-Editor-in-Chief is gradually coming to an end. As with every issue, there are highs and lows, but the highs have most definitely outweighed the lows this month. It’s been an absolute pleasure, and I’ve loved every moment. What was the best part? I would say the ending. Knowing that within the next few days we’ll get to see the results of all our work and finally get to enjoy some of this gorgeous sunshine.
