How is Louis Tomlinson changing the public’s perception one song at a time?

Louis Tomlinson, 1/5 of the worlds- biggest boyband of the 21st century “One Direction” has somewhat been overlooked in the industry since going solo in 2016.

However, for this new era, Tomlinson wants to change that.

Rising to fame in 2010, Tomlinson saw great success with the band, selling 70 million records worldwide, 4 number 1 albums and was the member with the most song writing credits, despite only being together for 5 years.

Shortly after Zayn Maliks departure in 2015, the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016 and in the same year Tomlinson released his debut single “Just Hold on” – an EDM dance track with DJ Steve Aoki.

Just over 3 years later, he released his debut solo album “Walls” which was a complete shift from his debut single as it had more of a Britpop/ indie vibe to it.

Furthermore, in 2022, he released his second album “Faith in the Future” which was much more developed sonically and got him his first solo number 1 album, but the accomplishments didn’t stop there.

The ‘Faith in the Future World’ Tour was a complete hit with sold out shows every night and stadium level crowds being drawn in at the festivals he was playing at.

So, what’s different this time round?

For one, Louis has described this new album’s vibe as “sunny with a sprinkle of chaos” as well as a “little brighter” than his previous album Faith in the Future.

Secondly, this album will be after the countless number of festivals that he’s performed at in the last 18 months. This will certainly have an impact on who will be listening to the new album, as people who have never listened to his music before and only saw him as “one of the guys from One Direction”, may be tuning in this time round as they enjoyed his set and want to continuing listening.

Thirdly and most importantly, the level of promotion has increased. In previous album cycles, fans online have felt that not enough promotion has been done from the label, e.g. performances, radio interviews etc, or that any promotion that has been done has kind of fizzled out.

Whereas for this new era, Louis has already booked a BBC Live Lounge and Radio 1 New Music appearance, a Rolling Stones Cover and the creation of a Tik Tok account where fans can make videos using his up and coming single “Lemonade” (30th September).

Overall, this new era is looking very promising for Louis, and it will definitely catch the public’s eye one way or another, but more importantly than ever- supporting fans who have wished for this recognition from the beginning.
