Alcohol is one of the most common, easily accessible and recreationally used substances in the world but, despite being so widely available and used, it is still a toxic and psychoactive drink. There is such a culture surrounding drinking that it can mean people feel influenced to do it and can consequently feel marginalized when choosing not to participate. Here’s the disclaimer: just as it is completely okay to enjoy alcohol healthily and in moderation, it is equally okay to decide you no longer want it in your diet.
It is important to be educated that drinking alcohol can have side effects including liver and heart problems, mental health conditions and behavioral disorders. The Health Executive Service lists some of the benefits to cutting out the drink:
When stopping alcohol consumption, you’ll no longer experience hangovers or low mood following consumption, and these post-drinking symptoms can vary depending on the person. You will no longer miss a morning due to a headache or need to play catch up with the week, and you therefore have some free time available to you to do something other than hug the toilet.
